Engineering student stabs classmate over love affair

Girl suffered 5-inch-deep abdomen cut

A 19-year-old engineering student on Friday stabbed his female classmate over a severed relationship, at the library of PES Institute of Technology, Bangalore South Campus, on Hosur road.

The accused has been as identified as Sayanthan, a fourth semester student of Computer Science. He is the son of an LIC agent and a native of West Bengal.
The police said that he was in a relationship with his classmate a daughter of an Army officer, and also a native of West Bengal.

The police said that on Friday afternoon, Sayanthan barged into the college library, stabbed the girl on her stomach and tried fleeing the spot.

But, he was overpowered by the students who witnessed the incident, the police added. The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The doctors said she had suffered a five-inch-deep cut but was now out of danger, the police said.

Meanwhile, the students handed over Sayanthan to the police.

Reason stated
According to the police, the girl had started ignoring him recently and had asked him to not trouble her. She and her parents had told him to stay away from her. Enraged by this, Sayanthan stabbed her, the police said.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered in Parappana Agrahara police station.
