President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday majestically drove to Parliament in his Presidential buggy to address the joint sitting of Parliament.

This is the second time Mukherjee rode to Parliament, the first being last year. In vogue for about two decades, Mukherjee had revived the tradition of using Presidential buggy to arrive at very important national functions last year.

From the beginning of his tenure, he started using the buggy to travel inside Rashtrapati Bhavan. Last year, he first rode the buggy to Beating the Retreat function on Rajpath and later to Parliament to address the joint sitting.

This time too, he came in the buggy to the excitement of scores of journalists, who began clicking selfies using their mobile phones. Some were seen asking press photographers to click their pictures with the buggy and the horse-bound Presidental guards in the background.

The President also wanted to use the buggy during the Republic Day parade, but the establishment rejected the idea as there was heightened security due to US President Barack Obama’s presence.
