Had it not been the motivation from his three daughters, Vijender Garg would not have become a legislator.

But now that he has been elected an MLA on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket, the Rajinder Nagar legislators does not want to waste any time to make the area more secure for women, including his daughters.

“For me women safety is very important. More CCTV will be put in the locality and police patrolling will be increased near schools and colleges,” he said.

Garg, 51, and his homemaker wife give a lot to credit to his daughters for managing his campaign and giving him feedback on eve-teasing and other issues from the ground level which he used during public interaction.

His eldest daughter is a company secretary, another one is doing MBA and the youngest is studying in Class 7.

Popularly known as “Vijay” in his constituency, Garg does not miss a chance to relax with a game of cricket in the Pusa ground.  It was not easy for him to leave his old party and join the Aam Aadmi Party.

“I served the Congress for 30 years but quit from the party after participating in the Anna Hazare movement in 2011,” he said.

“The AAP is working for a good cause and the Congress was not on the right track. Even when I was in the Congress, I raised my voice against corruption,” he said.
“When I first met Arvind Kejriwal, I saw a ray of hope in him,” Garg said, while  talking about his experience and interaction with Kejriwal.

In the coming days, Garg is planning to organise public meetings to prioritise the work that needs to be done with his constituency development fund.

Apart from improving women safety, Garg assures solving the civic issues in the slums and resettlement colonies.

The legislator claimed he and his team are preparing a roadmap with the help of  experts from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and the municipal corporation.

“I am also worried about the parking problem in Rajinder Nagar and Inderpuri, which I will improve very soon” he added.
