125 held for pickpocketing

In a 13-hour special drive against pickpockets from 7 am and at 8 pm, police arrested 125 suspected wallet lifters, including a woman, from across the City on Wednesday.

P Harishekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said, “Around 500 policemen were deployed at all bus terminals and areas where there is heavy movement of people. Policemen in plain clothes boarded BMTC buses and arrested many pickpockets.

We have secured 92 people and gathered information about them.” Thirty-six suspected pickpockets were picked up in the south police division. Similar drives will be conducted in future, the officer said.
