Husband sets pregnant wife ablaze in R'than

A 35-year-old pregnant woman was burnt to death by her husband when she expressed her wish to consult a doctor.

Her husband along with his parents poured kerosene on the women and set her on fire. Later, neighbours came to the rescue and admitted her to a hospital where she was declared dead.

The incident took place in Ajmer district. Police have arrested her husband Hariram while his parents are absconding.

Police said Sugni Devi had sustained severe burn injuries but gave her statement before death. “The couple was married for 15 years and husband Hariram was an alcoholic. At the time of incident, Hariram was heavily drunk,” said a senior police officer.

Police informed that both Hariram and his parents didn’t want the baby following which Sugni was forced to take contraceptive pills. It led to some complications and Sugni asked her husband to consult the doctor but the request was turned down.

Irked by regular requests to consult doctor, Hariram with his parents first poured kerosene on Sugni and later, set her on fire.
