Moderate rain greets capital ahead of Holi

Delhiites received respite from the heat of the past few days with the capital seeing a pleasant Sunday. After the last few days’ heat, there was a spell of rain with thundershowers in the city. The maximum temperature dipped eight notches below normal with a chill in the air. 

The beginning of the week is also likely to see more rainfall, as predicted by Meteorological Department.

On Sunday, the capital saw rainfall from early morning. The maximum temperature eight notches below normal. The rainfall in the city was due to the Western disturbances, said a Met official.


“The maximum temperature was recorded at 19.0 degree Celsius, eight notches below normal and the minimum temperature was recorded three degrees above normal at 15.2 degree Celsius. The Western disturbances caused the sudden rainfall in the city,” said a Met official.

Till 8.30 am, the Capital received 8.0 mm of rainfall. “The rainfall ranged between light to moderate. After 8.30 am, the Capital received rainfall of 17.2 mm,” said the Met official.
The rainfall was accompanied by winds and a chill in the air.


More rain likely today

On Monday, some parts of the city is likely to see light rainfall along with thunderstorm.
“The sky will be partly cloudy. Rainfall may occur in some parts of the city accompanied by thunderstorms. The maximum temperature will hover around 20 degree Celsius and the minimum at 15 degree Celsius,” said a MeT official.

Similar weather condition is likely to continue for the next two days now. “Rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue till Tuesday,” said the official. From Wednesday onwards, the city will see a clear sky.


For the past few days, the capital has seen the maximum temperature going  up. On Saturday, the minimum temperature had settled at 12.6 degree Celsius while the maximum temperature had settled at 29.2 degree Celsius, four notches below normal.
