Metro rides are now likely to be a smoother experience for commuters with the DMRC pressing in more trains into service from Monday. The additional trains will be introduced during the peak Metro hours.

A total of 17 additional trains will make an extra 104 trips on all Metro lines except Green Line and the Airport Express Line. The extra trains will run in two slots – 11 am to 4.30 pm and 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The move aims to decongest the evening rush. With increased frequency of trains, more passengers can avail the services during the morning hours as well.

“The extra trains will help several passengers reach their destination on time during these peak hours,” said a Metro official.

Passengers frequenting the Blue Line or Dwarka to Noida City Centre/Vaishali are likely to benefit the most with one extra train for the morning peak hour, four for off-peak hours and three for the evening peak hours. The line sees the highest number of trips among all the other lines at 734.

In terms of number of trips, the yellow line or trains between Jahangirpuri and HUDA City Centre is the busiest one after the Blue Line. It sees 619 trips daily. From Monday, this line will get two additional trains during off-peak hours and two during evening hours.

The violet line or the one from Mandi House to Badarpur will see three additional trains during off-peak hours which will enhance the frequency and one during the evening peak hour.

From 2010 to 2014, the DMRC has increased the number of coaches from 640 to 1,076 – an increase in around 70 per cent across the network.

The Red Line which currently has 25 trains in service will have one more train plying from Dilshad Garden to Rithala.

Currently, the number of passengers using the Metro services every day goes up to 25 lakh, according to the DMRC.
