Sujatha Majigoudar was awarded four gold medals at the sixth convocation of the Karnataka State Women’s University here on Tuesday.

She achieved the feat in post graduation (PG) in the Department of Kannada studies. Having succeeded in realising her first dream of marrying a soldier who guards the country’s border, the convocation was the occasion for her second dream to come true: a gold medal in PG.

Her joy has only quadrupled with four medals. Majigoudar hails from B N Jalihal village of Badami taluk in Bagalkot district.
The medal winner gives credit for her success to her parents, who are farmers, her brother and her husband. Majigoudar has another dream to fulfil. She wants to become a lecturer in future.
Dr Manju Sharma, retired secretary of the Department of Science and Technology of Gujarat, delivered the convocation address.  Gender mindsets

She said that gender and mindset issues had become hurdles for women in their endeavour towards success in the field of science and technology. These hurdles had to be cleared, she said.

Indumathi Rao, wife of noted scientist C NR Rao, Madhu Singhal, a blind person who is rendering service towards the welfare of the disabled and Vilasvati Khuba from Kalaburagi were awarded honorary doctorates by Prof Meena R Chandavarkar, the vice-chancellor of the women’s university.

A total of 46 gold medals were awarded to 37 students and 24 students were presented PhDs on the occasion.
