Ex-serviceman denied SI post under reservation

Last Updated 06 March 2015, 18:33 IST

An ex-serviceman has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta seeking a direction to the Police Sub-Inspector Recruitment Committee to consider him for the post under the ex-servicemen quota.

The committee refused to consider Gajanana Naik, a native of Talgod in Uttara Kannada district, at the interview stage stating that he had already used the reservation for the post of village accountant.

The complainant stated he had applied for the post of sub-inspector under the ex-servicemen quota. Meanwhile, when the village accountant post was notified, he applied for it and was selected on January 30, 2015.

Subsequently, he appeared for the written test and physical endurance test for the sub-inspector’s post. While the viva voce for the SI post was not yet announced, he joined as the village accountant when he received the appointment order.

On February 22, Naik received an intimation to appear for the SI post viva on February 28. At the viva, the selection panel told him that he could not avail himself of the reservation since he had already got a job under it.

But an aggrieved Naik immediately approached the Sainik Welfare Board and got a clarification that there was no bar on seeking a second appointment for a higher post, as per Government Clarification dated December 12, 2010.

“The complainant stated that despite explaining this to the selection committee, he was not considered for the post. He also stated that the interviews are conducted in the ratio of 1:2 and he claims to have every chance of getting selected. If he is otherwise eligible for recruitment, he should not be denied a chance to be selected for a better post. I have directed the officials and the DIG (Training and Recruitment) to consider the ex-serviceman’s request and submit an action taken report on March 10,” Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi said.
