Three students drown in lake

Three college students drowned in a lake at Harohalli in Ramanagar district on Friday. 

The police identified the victims as Balagopal Reddy, Kiran V and Harish, who were studying BA in Government First Grade College in Yediyur. They were a part of 38 students who had gone to attend a six-day NSS camp at Dodda Maralwadi.

On Friday, the three students went to swim, along with a few friends, in Rawathalli lake  nearby. They ventured into the water and started drowning. The other friends, who were watching them, raised an alarm, but in vain. They ran to the village and told the villagers about it. The villagers rushed to the spot,  but could not help the trio.

The police were informed and they recovered the bodies with the help of the locals. A case has been registered and investigation is being carried on. 

6 held for stealingThe West Division police have arrested six persons for stealing batteries from mobile phone towers across the City. As many as 520 batteries worth Rs 22 lakh have been recovered from the gang.

The arrested have been identified as Mahesh, 29, Santosh and Venkatesh, both 23,  all residents of Deepanjali Nagar and Shivakumar Swamy, 29, a resident of Chamarajpet. Based on the information given by these four, the police arrested Sayed Nadeem, 26, and Shaikh Ali, 53.

The accused used to make away with the batteries of mobile phone towers belonging to Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance and other telecom operators. Whenever caught by the people, they used to identify themselves as technicians who had come to replace the batteries. There had been a spurt in the theft of tower batteries in the recent days, police said.

Accountant killedA 35-year-old accountant was killed after his car collided head-on with a speeding lorry near TC Palya in KR Puram on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kumar, a resident of Hoskote.

The accident occurred around 12.45 am when Kumar was returning home. He was killed on the spot. Passersby tried to nab the lorry driver, but he fled.
