Quasar wins Invitation Cup

Narredu ward beats stable-mate Be Safe in controversial finish

 Quasar, ridden by Yash Narredu and trained by Mallesh Narredu, triumphed in the Omkar Indian Turf Invitation Cup, a victory that saw punters go wild and Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) stewards open an enquiry at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai on Saturday.

Punters felt aggrieved after overwhelming favourite Be Safe, trained by Mallesh and ridden by his nephew Suraj, lost out by a neck in the 2400-metre plum event.
Totally uhappy with Be Safe’s loss, angry punters went on a rampage, pelting stones at cars and breaking objects. As a result of the melee, the final race of the day -- the Deltin Casinos Stayers’ Cup -- appeared under cloud before the authorities decided to stage it in fading light.

Astapi, A Sandesh astride won the Stayers’ Cup, with a two and a half lengths win over Tiger Tops.
