Additional commissioners of police redesignated

 The State government has passed an order redesignating the Additional Commissioner of Police - Law & Order and Crime - as Additional Commissioner of Police (West) and Additional Commissioner of Police (East).

This is aimed at overcoming the problems of ‘chain of command’ and ensuring better co-ordination among senior police officials in the City.

Commissioner of Police M N Reddi told reporters on Saturday, “Additional Commissioner (West) Alok Kumar will be in charge of both law and order and crime in the four divisions falling under him, while Additional Commissioner (East) P Harishekaran will be in charge of three divisions.” Hitherto, Alok Kumar was Additional Commissioner (Law & Order) and Harishekaran Additional Commissioner (Crime).

“Earlier, there was confusion among the police officers as they had to approach the two top officers from the Law & Order and Crime wings to report about a case and seek suggestions and directions. With the redesignation of the posts, it will help officials in going about their work at a quick pace.”

A senior police officer said, “This is a good move and the lower-rung officials will have more clarity to go about their work. Till now, the Additional Commissioners in charge of Law & Order and Crime had to be approached for suggestions and directions. The new differentiation will save time and we can complete the related work at the earliest.”

Also, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime-2) has been redesignated as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Command Centre and Security).

Additional Commissioner of Police (West) will be in charge of the North, South, Central and West divisions and Additional Commissioner of Police (East) will be in charge of North-East, South-East and East divisions, according to the notification.
