Misbehaving Agra man lynched

Last Updated 13 March 2015, 18:48 IST

A 22-year-old youth was beaten to death by a mob for his “indecent” behaviour with a girl, a week after a man was lynched and hanged in Dimapur after being accused of rape.

Jeetu, a shoe factory worker, was said to have exposed himself “indecently” when a girl from his neighbourhood was passing by.

The girl complained about the incident to her family, said the police, adding that Jeetu was reportedly drunk when he misbehaved with the girl.

An irate mob, including the brothers of the girl, subsequently beat Jeetu to death.

An FIR has been registered against the brothers, who own another shoe factory and are currently absconding, police said. Both Jeetu’s and the girl are Dalit. The girl’s family resides in the Tamoli Para area of Shahganj here.

Meanwhile, Jeetu’s family members tried to block the traffic by placing his body on the road and demanded action against the culprits.

The police on Friday said a case has been registered against five accused, including a woman. However, no arrest has been made so far.

The accused are absconding and the relatives are being questioned to ascertain their whereabouts, inspector Jaspal Singh said.
