The night class programme which was started for slow learning SSLC students as part of Mission 95 Plus in Puttur taluk has received good response from students and parents.

Around 244 students are attending the night classes which are being conducted at 10 schools of the taluk. Interestingly, the Sri Gopalakrishna High School of Bilinele village has decided to extend benefit of night classes to the girl students of school as well and the classes would begin from March 28.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Head Master B Gopalakrishna said that the school is conducting night classes from 1985 itself, when the school was at Subrahmanya Mutt.

However, here this is the fourth year. The classes have been started to 21 boys from March 16.

For 17 girl students, classes will begin on March 28. Teachers are working on rotational basis, he said.

“We are conducting night classes with the cooperation of parents. As we have enough class rooms in the school space is not a problem to conduct classes both for boys and girls. We have appointed a cook to prepare dinner to students. Parents of the students provide rice and coconut and we look after other expenses.

As this is a backward area, poor students face many challenges to study in their home. Night classes always fruitful for us as last year we achieved 94.5 per cent in SSLC,” he said.
