The personal security officer (PSO) of a senior minister in Jammu and Kashmir fled with two rifles on Saturday, prompting police to launch a massive manhunt.

Sources told Deccan Herald that constable Naseer Ahmad Pandith went missing from the police post guarding residence of R&B Minister Altaf Bukhari, along with two AK-47 rifles and two magazines from the guard room late last night.
“As per the reports gathered by the security agencies, Naseer fled with three youths who are said to have been waiting from him in nearby locality. A colleague of Naseer had gone to offer prayers and had left his rifle with him,” they said.

The PSO, a 2007 recruit in the J&K Police, belongs to Pulwama district of South Kashmir and was appointed the minister’s guard 12 days ago. The police have registered a case and started investigation.
