UN chief Ban Ki-moon will travel to quake-hit Haiti on Sunday to show solidarity with the Haitian people and the local UN staff and assess humanitarian needs, a UN statement said.
The statement said Ban met with Haitian staff at UN headquarters and told them he would make the visit on Sunday "to show his solidarity with the people of Haiti and UN staff."
He also plans to "assess the humanitarian assistance effort and the scale of the disaster for himself," the statement added.
