Prince’s uncle Dharmender had approached Sagarpur police station on April 28 to file a missing person complaint. “A case of kidnapping was filed and Prince’s body was recovered next morning.

The post-mortem report indicated that he was strangled,” said Nupur Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West). Several people known to the family were interrogated and call details of many mobile numbers were also analysed. The police team then zeroed in on Lakhan, who had stayed as tenant at Prince’s house few years back. He was apprehended and interrogated.

“Lakhan confessed to have killed Prince,” Prasad said.Lakhan hails from Uttar Pradesh and came to Delhi about eight years back. He was living with his sister and brother-in-law, who lived as tenants at Prince’s house.

“Lakhan studied with Prince’s sister and developed affection for her,” Prasad added. Lakhan later shifted to nearby Jagdamba Vihar and remained in love the girl. Both of them appeared for class 12 board exams this year. “The girl recently started avoiding him. Due to this, he developed a grudge against her and decided to teach her a lesson,” Prasad said.

On April 28, Lakhan lured her younger brother to a secluded place on the pretext of an excursion. He strangled Prince on finding an opportunity and threw the body in bushes. “To ensure that nobody doubted him, he pretended to be caring and worried for the missing boy. He also accompanied the boy’s family in a search,” Prasad added. A case under Indian Penal Code has been registered against Lakhan with Sagarpur police station.
