<p>The hanging bridges constructed five years ago in Kalasa hobli is longing for maintenance. Without maintenance, the materials used for the construction of the bridge has rusted. <br /><br /></p>.<p>When M P Kumaraswamy was the MLA, hanging bridges were constructed under Western Ghats Development plan at an estimated cost of Rs 40 to 60 lakh.<br /><br />The bridges were constructed at Kallugodu, Vashishtashrama and other places. As two-wheelers can also run on the bridge, the residents were happy.<br /><br />However, over a period of without maintenance, the iron rods used for the bridge has developed rust. The question of maintenance of the bridge has been raised.<br />GPs’ obligation<br /><br />When asked Zilla Panchayat engineering division Assistant Executive Engineer, he said that the hanging bridges have been entrusted to the gram panchayats. Now, it is left to the gram panchayats to maintain it. <br /><br />To paint the hanging bridges, one has to shell out money. The Kalasa and Samse gram panchayats do not have enough fund to maintain it. <br /><br />“We were demanding a permanent structure to cross the river or water body. However, we were given hanging bridge. Now, the local authorities do not have enough fund to maintain it,” said S K Megal residents.<br /><br />The residents said “we do not want hanging bridge. We want a permanent bridge in the village.” <br /><br /></p>
