Tihar undertrial stabbed to death

His wife tells cops about threat she got

A 40-year-old undertrial in Tihar Jail was stabbed to death on Monday by three inmates over old personal enmity.

The victim’s wife has claimed that she had been threatened with harm to her husband just sometime prior to his murder.

The assailants were armed with sharp objects which they used to inflict stab wounds on the victim’s face and other body parts. He was declared brought dead at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.Victim Ajay had been a frequent visitor to jail as he was facing over half a dozen criminal cases. He had been acquitted in a couple of cases in the past and was out on bail for the last three years.

He was sent behind bars again about a week ago in connection with another case.Ajay as well as the prime accused in his murder case Sumit hail from Khanpur in south Delhi.

Sumit too has spent much time in Tihar Jail. The two shared a history of personal enmity.

A police officer said Sumit, 24, blamed Ajay for murdering his brother and was waiting to seek revenge. “Sumit sought the help of two other inmates Rakesh and Raman to eliminate Ajay. The trio attacked Ajay with sharp objects around 2.30 pm while he was alone,” said the officer.

Other inmates and jail staff rushed to Ajay’s aid on hearing his cries, but by then he had been stabbed multiple times. 

He was rushed to DDU Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.Excessive bleeding is being seen as cause of the death.

A murder case has been registered against Sumit, Rakesh and Raman with Hari Nagar police station.

Meanwhile, Ajay’s wife Sangeeta has alleged that a man had threatened that her husband would be killed soon. 

She claimed that she was in the jail premises around 1 pm on Monday to meet Ajay when a man, she identified as Ramakant, issued the threats in the meeting room.

She alleged Ramakant’s hand behind the murder because of an old enmity they shared.Police said they are verifying this allegation.
