The highly decomposed body of a 62-year-old businessman was found in a lodge in Chickpet on Tuesday.

The deceased Vishwanath is a native of Hindupur in Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh. He was running a Maize business.

According to the police, on May 9, he checked into Krishna lodge in Chickpet and committed suicide by consuming poison. The room boys got suspicious when they noticed that Vishwanath had not come out of his room from the time he had checked in.

On Tuesday, when a foul smell started emanating from the room, the room boys informed the manager of the lodge. They broke open the door and found the body lying on the bed in a highly decomposed state.

The police, who were alerted, rushed to the spot and found a poison bottle lying on the bed. They also found a death note in his trouser pocket, which stated that he took the extreme step because he could not repay his debt.

He had borrowed a couple of lakhs from his son-in-law to buy maize from a few dealers in the City. But he lost the money at the City railway station and was very upset about losing the money. His family members were informed and they are being questioned, added the police.

A case has been registered in Chickpet police station.
