A man axed his 41-year-old wife to death following an argument in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala on Wednesday. The man himself called police to inform them about the murder but chose to flee after that.

Neighbours told police that the couple fought often and there was marital discord between them for long. Police said they hope to know the reason behind the fights from the couple’s two sons, aged 20 and 25.

Culprit Aziz Khan called the police control room around 8 am. He said he would surrender before them but has been untraceable ever since.  A police team has been dispatched to his native village in Kanpur.

The local police station was alerted upon receiving this call. Police rushed to the  address to find Tahira lying dead in a pool of blood. She had been brutally struck in her neck.

A bloodstained axe was found near the body. The body was sent for a post-mortem. A murder case has been registered with Kanjhawala police station.

“The couple was alone at their home at the time of the murder. Their younger son was away at a gym while the elder one lives in Kanpur,” said a police officer.

The couple’s family is being questioned in a bid to know what led to the marital discord between them. Having seen the gruesome condition his mother’s body was found in, the younger son is in a state of shock and is being counseled.

Khan runs a tailor shop in Kanjhawala and had been staying with his family in Roopali Enclave Colony in the same area for the last several years.
