Efficiency in work through free SMS

Last Updated 27 May 2009, 16:05 IST

For the first time in the State, it has come forward to realise the concept of a paper-free office by utilising free text messaging service, which helps check unnecessary administrative costs and undue delays.

The idea was mooted by Zilla Panchayat CEO Anthony Medonsa.

Speaking to Deccan Herald here on Tuesday, Anthony Medonsa said, “Many institutions (ISPs) which give internet services, also provide e-mail and chat facility including free text messaging, from computer to mobile. We have made use of that service. We can send SMS simultaneously, within a fraction of second, to the 190 mobile numbers, including 134 secretaries of the Gram Panchayat and other officials in the district.”

Moreover, we get the required information from all the secretaries of Gram Panchayat, within a fraction of a second, through the SMS service. Hence there is no need to wait for long to get the reply, he explained.

The Zilla Panchayat has used the ‘way2 SMS’ service which is provided by Google. It has added mobile numbers of the Gram Panchayat secretaries in the service.

Text messages (SMS) can be sent to secretaries who are located in a particular taluk.

Besides this, the Zilla Panchayat has also used wireless facility to pass on instructions, and to get information from a particular staff during emergency, he said.
