Kottur students come up trumps with hard work

Netravathi B M and Malini J of the Indu PU College in Kottur of the taluk have stood first and second, respectively, in the arts discipline of the II PU exams.

While Netravathi garnered 579 (96.05 per cent), Malini secured 578 (96.03 per cent). The two students hail from a rural belt and have come up trumps against all odds. They want to continue studying in Kottur and plan to write IAS or KAS exam.

Netravathi hails from a middle class family in Chikkabantanahalli of Jagalur taluk in neighbouring Davangere district and is the daughter of Basavarajappa and Girijamma. Since there is no bus facility to Chikkabantanahalli, she stayed at her sister’s place in Kottur during her studies.

Malini’s achievement is equally credit worthy, as she travelled 60 km each day to Kottur from Nimbalgere, three km from her native village of Yarrammanahalli. She had to walk to Nimbalgere to catch the bus, whenever her father could not drop her at the bus stop on his bike. Malini studied for five hours daily, despite her hectic schedule. She is the daughter of Veeranna and Indramma.
