Five members of a gang were arrested after Delhi Police tapped a phone conversation of a criminal lodged in Tihar Jail with his accomplices.

The gang was planning to kill family members of rivals in outer Delhi, police said on Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Vinod, Amarjeet, Harvinder, Lokesh and Vijender, all shooters of Karambir’s gang.

“An information was received in the second week of May that some members of Karambir gang were assembling frequently on the instructions of Karambir,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.

They planned to avenge an attack on Karambir’s mother by the rival gang of Sanchit and Mintu in which her hand was chopped off.

“Karambir was eager to avenge the attack on his mother,” Yadav added.
It was also learnt that Karambir’s gang had recently attempted a carjacking near Kondli border.

They had opened fire when the car driver resisted. While fleeing, one of the accused had suffered accidental bullet injuries in his leg, but still managed to escape from the crime scene.
Police teams were working to prevent the impending bloodbath between the gangs.

On May 15, a tapped phone conversation revealed that Karambir was giving instructions to his henchmen to execute the revenge killings on the same night.

“The instructions were clear, to eliminate every member of the rival gang who could be found unprepared for the onslaught,” Yadav said.

As the tapped phone conversation had revealed most of the information, the police team managed to apprehend five members of Karambir gang at his house at Ghevra village in outer Delhi.

“The criminals were armed and had assembled one final time at Karambir’s house from where they were to proceed to eliminate rival families. The arrested accused are seasoned criminals and have previous involvement in several heinous crimes,” Yadav added.

Police recovered two .32 bore pistols with 21 cartridges and two .315 bore single-shot firearms with three cartridges.
