Shocking anomalies have come to light in the second year pre university exam results that were announced on Monday. For the second consecutive day following the announcement of exam results, parents and students protested against the apathy of the department.

Condemning the lack of accountability in the results, a section of the students and their parents demanded the department to take back the results announced and revaluate all the scripts. They have also asked the department to withhold the CET results and announce the entrance test results only after rectifying the errors
. In the case of some students, they have been marked absent even though they attended the exam. In the case of others, their marks are abysmally low compared to their scores in all other subjects. The agitating parents pointed out that various websites were showing different results of the same candidate.

Explaining the extent of the mix-up in results, Monica (name changed), a student who took the II PU exams in March, this year, said: “In my case, the results show that I have secured 11 in Mathematics. Out of which 9 were grace marks. Does that mean that I sat in the exam hall for three hours and wrote answers only for two marks? That does not even make any sense.”

This is not just a matter of marks but it is causing a great deal of anxiety and depression among both students and their parents, Monica said.

“Some of them have attempted suicide. Some are in the ICU. We want the department to re-correct all the papers.”

In another case, Shahil, aunt of one of the candidates, Abdul (name changed) said that her nephew has scored 76 in English, 81 in Economics, 90 in Business Studies, 78 in Accountancy and 88 in Computer Science but the marks he was given in Hindi was only 15. He was depressed seeing the results, she added.

Students have warned of intensifying the protests if the department failed to respond. As on Wednesday, they did not get a satisfactory response from the department.

They were asked to give a written complaint but the department told them that it would take at least 10 days for revaluation. Meanwhile, if the department announces CET results within that time, these candidates would find it hard to secure admissions on account of their low scores.
