Royal twist to encroachment saga

Last Updated 20 May 2015, 18:45 IST

An interesting twist was in store for the House Committee headed by senior Congress leader K B Koliwad during its visit to Sankey tank in the City on Wednesday.

The district officials informed that one acre and six guntas of the lake land has been encroached upon, but the original owner claimed it was purchased from the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore. The officials during the visit by the Committee said the matter was in the Court and a joint survey has been ordered. The authorities further said though the survey has been complete, the boundaries have not been fixed. However, M A Srinivas, the owner of the land, who has been said to be an encroacher, came to the spot. He contended that the land was not encroached but was purchased by his grandfather, whose name was also M A Srinivas.

“It is not a grant or gift deed. We have an authentic sale deed of purchasing 10 acres 31 guntas of land from the then Maharaja,” he said. “My grandfather was a diwan of princely state of Gwalior and was a Pradhan in the state of Mysore prior to that,” he said.

Submitting a copy of his documents to the committee he contended that the problem has arisen due to improper survey and informed the committee that he has applied for re-survey and rectification by appealing to Joint Director, Land Records.

When Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar pointed out to the land granted to Mantri Developers was on banks of the lake, the authorities said that the land is not part of the lake. However, Koliwad directed the officials to furnish records pertaining to the land granted to Mantri Developers by Wednesday evening.
