Five-yr-old girl raped by vagabond, dumped at rail yard

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped after being kidnapped. After the assualt, she was abandoned at a yard in Old Delhi railway station on Wednesday.

Later, ascetained to be the daughter of a vagabond, the victim was discovered by some passers-by around 11.30 am.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia said several teams had been formed to trace and apprehend the accused who is a vagabond and a known resident of the area.

Meanwhile, the condition of the victim is said to be stable, but serious at a hospital.

“A police team rushed to the spot and took her for a medical examination which confirmed sexual assault,” said a senior police officer.

“Prima facie, the investigation suggests that she was sexually assaulted elsewhere before being abandoned at the spot from where she was recovered,” the officer added.

Police said the victim was found crying for help at a secluded train yard at the railway station and had evident injuries on her body.

Provided clues

Her parents were informed following her admission at a hospital and they have provided clues which helped investigators zero in on a known vagabond.

The accused has criminal history and was involved in an attempted sexual assault in the past.

Initially suspected to be a minor, further investigation helped police ascertain that the accused was, in fact, an adult. A case has been filed with Old Delhi railway police station.
