Kejriwal slams Centre for backing Jung

Last Updated 22 May 2015, 19:26 IST

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal fumed on Friday at the central government reasserting the primacy of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in posting Delhi bureaucrats and said the move was aimed at promoting corruption and controlling the city indirectly.

In a notification dated May 21, the central government said the Delhi government “will have no executive power” with regard to “services” -- a reference to Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, underlining the fact that it was not mandatory for Jung to consult Kejriwal on matters like appointment of bureaucrats.

Kejriwal reacted angrily to the notification and tweeted “BJP first lost Del elections. Today's notification shows BJP's nervousness abt our anti-corruption efforts. BJP again lost today(sic)”.

The Chief Minister said he was getting the notification examined by legal experts for infirmities.

He refused to confirm if the AAP government would move court for its rights.

He said the Central government was trying to run Delhi through the backdoor and the confusing notification issued now is another example of it.
