Bollywood director Sriram Raghavan, who recently wielded the megaphone for the widely acclaimed Hindi movie ‘Badlapur’, on Saturday, said making such films, off the beaten path, was not an easy task.

Participating in an interaction, organised by Wide Screen Motions, on ‘Badlapur’, at the Cauvery Hall of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) here, Raghavan shared the experiences related to the making of the movie.

Having made his point that making a flick with a difference was a challenging task, Raghavan said, “from start to finish, one has to face many hurdles. Though the producers are convinced to invest in such genre of films, they will be still skeptical about monetary returns”.

Raghavan said, though ‘Badlapur’ was shot sans any songs, after the preview, following the mixed reactions from the select audience, a song was added. It was a video song that follows the end of the movie.

Delving into the characters played by lead actors Varun Dhawan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raghavan said, the names of the characters underwent several changes in the script level, till the shooting began.

He shared the details on the technical aspects of the movie, cast, dialogues, camera work and also locations. The movie was adapted to the screen from an Italian short story authored by Moussimo Carlopto.

Noted film director Prakash Belawadi appreciated the movie as a new experiment in the history of Indian cinema. “Films in general, and art in particular, should be used as a medium to arouse morality among youth, who have been swayed over by modernity”, he said. Another director, S D Arvind, hailed the movie for recreating the magic of the 70s with a revenge saga.

Earlier, a 25 minutes trailer of the movie was screened, followed by the performance of lead singer Srikanta Swamy of ‘Rhythm Adda’ band. Swamy rendered ‘Jee Karda..’, the only song of ‘Badlapur’.

Students from journalism and film appreciation courses, along with movie enthusiasts from Mysuru and Bengaluru took part in the interaction.
