BJP violating poll code of conduct: Vishwanath

Last Updated 23 May 2015, 18:19 IST

Former MP H Vishwanath has alleged that BJP workers are violating the poll code of conduct by using party symbol and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name. The officials should initiate strict action against them.

Briefing reporters, on Saturday, he said a pamphlet with title “Panchayat to Parliament” is being circulated by BJP through BJP supported candidates. Jagruthi Samithi is also publicising Narendra Modi’s programmes.

“The candidates contesting gram panchayat elections have been proscribed from using political party symbols or pictures of political party leaders in their campaign. If they violate this rule, election materials of such candidates should be confiscated and case should be registered for violating model code of conduct. However, Kodagu BJP is violating the rules,” he added.

“We have already submitted a complaint to Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari to initiate action against the BJP,” he said. All political parties in the country  have failed in educating the voters. Tobacco Development Board President T P Ramesh said “if district administration fails to act against BJP, then Congress will start campaigning in favour of the party. A complaint will be submitted to State Election Commission against BJP.”

DCC President B T Pradeep said the BJP is not honouring democratic set up. There is a need to beef up security in sensitive and hyper sensitive polling booths.

The district administration should initiate measures for fair polling. Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari has warned against using political party symbols and photos of political party leaders during election. If rule is violated, election materials of candidates will be confiscated and cases under model code of conduct booked against them. The use of party symbols, photos of political party leaders in banners and cut outs is violation of Karnataka Panchayat Raj Act 1993. The publishing of advertisements using party symbols are also violation.
