Two Uttar Pradesh swimmers Yogeshwar Prasad (Group IV boys) and Arjun Banavdha (Group IV boys) and L Paikhomba of Manipur (Group III boys) were barred from competing in the championship. Bone tests done at a local hospital revealed the three were above the age to compete in their respective groups.

“The three swimmers found overage and all of them were disqualified. They can now compete only in senior championships and not in age group meets,” said Kamlesh Nanavathi, the Technical Director to the Swimming Federation of India.

Yogeshwar, who won the 200 freestyle on Tuesday, has been stripped of his gold medal. Sudhanshu Sharma of Maharashtra, who timed 2:17.58 seconds, took the gold in this event. Deepak Kumar Maurya of UP (2:18.79) claimed silver and SK Adarsh Narayan of Tamil Nadu (2:22.18) bagged the bronze.

The UP team had their 4x50M freestyle gold also taken back in which Yogeshwar had swum the first 50-metre. West Bengal team (2:04.48), who finished fourth on Tuesday, were awarded the bronze medal.
