No headway in construction of private bus stand

Last Updated 24 May 2015, 18:09 IST

With the monsoon set to enter the State within a few days, the work on private bus stand in Madikeri is likely to be delayed further. It was four years ago that a three-acre land was identified for the construction of the bus stand near Dairy farm in Madikeri. Unfortunately, the work is yet to commence.

On the other hand, CMC does not have clear cut knowledge on how to initiate the work. The CMC took a lot of time in discussing on whether the work should be initiated on PPP model or with the help of funds from the State government.

The mud excavated for the construction work of district complex, commenced two years ago, was dumped at the site meant for bus shelter. Now, Rs 20 lakh has been earmarked for clearing the soil.

The CMC had decided to utilise SFC grant for clearing the soil and levelling the land. The work on clearing the soil and levelling the land has not yet commenced. With the monsoon arriving, the work cannot be taken up for next six months.

As per the engineers’ report, the dumped soil is of no use. It has to be removed completely for taking up the work on the bus shelter.
