The State BJP on Monday urged Governor Vajubhai Vala to direct the State government to refer the lottery scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for conducting a thorough investigation.

A delegation of BJP legislators led by former ministers R Ashoka and S Suresh Kumar submitted a memorandum to the Governor, seeking his intervention. The State government appears to be covering up the scam as there is a possibility of the involvement of people connected to the ruling party. It has been selective in taking action, the party charged.

Several thousands of crores of rupees are involved, covering other States.
What has come out so far is only a tip of the iceberg. Suspension of senior IPS officer Alok Kumar has shaken the confidence of people.

Many of the political leaders of the ruling party may also be involved in the illegality. Hence it is a fit case for Central Bureau of Investigation , the memorandum said.

The Central Investigation Department (CID) interim report on the issue has mentioned names of more than 37 police officers, but the government has been selective in taking action. The government has been causal in its approach as far as investigation into the scam is concerned and expressed fear that the ongoing  Central Investigation Department  probe may be compromised. It also charged Home Minister K J George with inability to handle the Home Department. The dismal performance of the home minister has been affecting many sensitive cases, the party added.

“The intelligence wing of State police reports directly to the chief minister and it is surprising that Siddaramaiah was unaware of the single digit racket in the last two years. This is a hard pill to digest. We strongly believe it is a ploy he is using to wriggle out of the crisis by pleading innocence,” the memorandum stated.
