Last Updated 25 May 2015, 18:59 IST

A Legislative Assembly committee looking into the irregularities in the purchase of power on Monday decided to complain to Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa against JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy for making proceedings of the panel public.

The committee, headed by Kumaraswamy’s bete noire and Energy Minister D K Shivakumar, decided to give a written complaint to the Speaker against Kumaraswamy, who is also a member of the panel. The JD(S) leader was not present in the Monday’s meeting. The committee has decided to leave it to the Speaker to take appropriate action against the JD(S) leader, sources in the panel said.

The members are not supposed to disclose the committee proceedings to public until the report is submitted to the Assembly.

But Kumaraswamy had been briefing the media after every meeting and accusing Shivakumar of not furnishing any information pertaining to the power purchase. The two leaders had indulged in heated arguments  in many of the panel meetings in this regard in the past, the sources added.

The JD(S) leader had recently lodged a complaint to Kagodu against the Minister in this regard.

He had also offered to resign as the committee member to register his protest. The Speaker persuaded him to continue in the committee.
