Medium row: Govt for action against schools

Appeal against High Court verdict

He told reporters that the State government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court order that favoured the schools. In case the apex court verdict also goes against the State, the Government will explore other options to stop the school managements from teaching in English, he added.

“Under no circumstance, the Government will allow the school managements to teach in English in the present academic year,” the minister said Support Members of Swabimani Karnataka Vedike, including noted writer Prof Chandrashekara Patil, P V Narayan and B T Lalita Nayak, have extended their support to the Government on its stand over the issue.

The Vedike has lodged a complaint with Legislative Council Chairman Veeranna Mattikatti against Deputy Chairman Puttanna for allegedly supporting the private school managements on the issue.

“We have asked the Chairman to direct his deputy to first resign from his post before issuing any statement in favour of schools which have taken anti-Kannada stand,” Prof Chandrashekara Patil said.
