Kejelcha clocks year's fastest time in 5000M

Olympic and world champion Mo Farah kept his four-year winning streak over 10,000 metres intact in running the year's fastest time of 26 minutes, 50.97 seconds at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting on Friday.

Briton Farah, challenged by Kenyan Paul Tanui, pushed to the front with 350M to go to defeat Tanui, who ran 26:51.86. Geoffrey Kamworor, also of Kenya, took third in 26:52.65.

"It would have been good to run a little bit faster," Farah said. "Training has been going pretty well.

Ethiopian Yomif Kejelcha stole the show in the men's 5,000M, running a lifetime best 13:10.54, also the year's fastest time.

Kenyan Edwin Soi claimed second in 13:11.97 and Galen Rupp faded to third in 13:12.36.
Also on the first day, American long jumper Tianna Bartoletta became the first woman to leap over seven metres this year though her mark of 7.11M was wind-aided.

Shot put: Joe Kovacs (US) 22.12 metres, 1; David Storl (Germany) 21.92, 2; Ryan Whiting (US) 21.37, 3.

Discus Throw: Piotr Malachowski (Poland) 65.59 metres, 1; Robert Urbanek (Poland) 65.42, 2; Vikas Gowda (India) 64.41, 3.   

Women: Long Jump: Tianna Bartoletta (US) 7.11 metres, 1; Christabel Nettey (Canada) 6.99, 2; Lorraine Ugen (Britain) 6.89, 3.    


Gowda wins bronze medal

In the men’s discuss throw, India’s Vikas Gowda clinched the bronze medal with a throw of 64.41 metres.
