<p>A 10-year-old boy drowned in stormwater drain (SWD) near Bellanduru Lake in HAL police limits on Saturday evening. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The police identified the victim as Junaid, son of construction labourers from Uttar Pradesh, residents of Kariyammana Agrahara.<br /><br />The victim’s parents came to Bengaluru to eke out a living a year ago. They were employed by a construction contractor and were staying with other labourers at Kariyammana Agrahara, said the police.<br /><br />Junaid went out of his house to play cricket around 4 pm on Saturday. He rushed towards rajakaluve to fetch the ball that had fallen there. While collecting the ball, Junaid lost balance and fell into the overflowing drain, added the police.<br /><br />The victim’s parents approached the police and lodged a complaint after they learnt that he had fallen into the drain, said the police.<br /><br />“A team comprising 20 personnel searched for the body till 11 pm before calling off the operation,” Chief Fire Officer C Basavanna said.<br /><br />The team resumed operation at 6 am on Sunday and recovered the body that was stuck in a huge quantity of plastic waste, about half a kilometre away from the spot, he added.<br /><br />Man drowns in quarry pit<br /><br />A 24-year-old man drowned in a quarry pit near his house at Aklenahalli village in Devanahalli taluk on Sunday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Arun Kumar, a tempo traveller driver.<br /><br />According to the police, Arun Kumar fell into the pit while attempting to retrieve the bucket that had fallen into the pit. He didn’t know swimming and drowned.<br /><br />Victim’s mother Rukmini and wife Bhavya, who were witness to the incident, raised alarm. A few neighbours rushed to the spot, jumped into the pit and lifted Arun Kumar, but by then he was dead, added the police.<br /><br /></p>
