An 18-year-old girl got so upset at scoring low marks in II PUC examinations that she reportedly committed suicide at her home in Hanumantha Nagar here on Tuesday.
Spoorthi Raj, who studied PUC at the Mount Carmel College, hanged herself from the ceiling at her home on Tuesday evening when no else was around, police said. The incident came to light when the maid, who had came to clean the house, found the main door locked from inside. Despite her repeated knocks on the door, there was no response. She then peeped through the window and was stunned to see Spoorthi hanging.
The maid then alerted the neighbours who immediately called Spoorthi’s parents. Police were called later. The parents told the police that Spoorthi had been very upset ever since the II PUC results were announced as she had performed poorly. A case has been registered at the Hanumantha Nagar police station.
