Spicy food on a platter

It isn’t difficult to fall, head over heels, in love with food in general. But it’s even easier to embrace Chettinad cuisine, what with the spices that are very likely to clear your nasal passage. However, there aren’t many (good) places that serve such dishes. This healthy concoction of all the right ingredients combine to make ‘Aathurar’, a traditional restaurant in Jeevan Bhima Nagar.

Though the restaurant goes unnoticed many a time because it sits right beside the City’s food hotspot, Indiranagar, it doesn’t fail to impress its customers. If you are in a hurry, you won’t be disappointed – the fast and polite service is just the topping on the well-baked cake. Try packaging the food if you can’t dine-in, but try it nonetheless. It will have you craving for a second look at the menu in no time!

Known for it’s ‘biryanis’ and Chettinad specials, it whips up a fine meal. Their ‘biryanis’ are served with lightning fast speed and they hit the palate with an unknown zeal. A must-try are their parottas, dosas and idiyappams, which gel well with a variety of gravies. The ‘Kaadai Chicken Gravy’ or ‘Chicken Chettinad’ go well with ‘kal dosa’ and the parottas. The ‘kal dosas’ in particular are soft and melt in the mouth like butter. The meal is not complete without a heaping of warm, liquid ‘ghee’; it might take a while to burn the calories but the food is worth it. 

The family restaurant knows how to prepare its meat and all their dishes are proof of this. But the buttermilk is a let down for people who are trying to cool off. Slightly watery and tasteless, it lacks the fresh thickness that is a must for the beverage.
Other than that, the quaint and quiet eatery is good. Seafood lovers will feel at home here with the various seafood preparations. Even vegetarians have something to look forward to.
