Police HQ work scam: Lokayukta cops search premises of engineers

Lokayukta police on Saturday searched the houses and offices of three Public Works Department (PWD) officials in connection with the lapses in works taken up at the State DG and IGP office on Nrupatunga Road.

The Lokayukta police had registered the FIR against Executive Engineer S Venugopal, Assistant Executive Engineer B Anand, Assistant Engineer D K Puttaswamy and his brother-in-law Anil Kumar, a building contractor.

Misappropriation
T J Abraham had filed a complaint with the Upalokayukta Justice Subhash B Adi. The Upalokayukta had directed the Lokayukta Chief Engineer to hold an inquiry. The chief engineer found misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 32 lakh in nine out of the 18 civil works at the DG and IGP office. The report also held PWD officials Venugopal, Assistant Engineer D K Puttaswamy and Assistant Executive Engineer Anand responsible for splitting a single work of constructing parking lots into nine different works to avoid the Transparency Act.

On Saturday, Lokayukta police searched the houses and offices and have taken incriminating documents pertaining to the works into their custody. A senior police official said that all the documents pertaining to the case have been seized.
