Manipur ambush: Army bids adieu to martyrs from Jammu

Army today bid an emotional adieu to the six soldiers of 6 Dogra infantry Battalion hailing from Jammu who lost their lives in the militant attack in Manipur on Thursday.

An Indian Air Force plane brought the mortal remains of the martyred soldiers to Jammu from where they were sent to their native villages by road for last rites.

"Late last night, the mortal remains of seven soldiers were brought to Jammu by an Air Force plane. One of the bodies was of a soldier from Punjab and the rest were the bodies of soldiers from here," Jammu-based defense spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta said.

A wreath laying ceremony at Satwari Cantonment area of the Jammu based Tiger division was organised by the Army, he said.

The bodies were then sent to the native villages of the soldiers for the last rites.
In the worst such attack in two decades, insurgents ambushed a military convoy in Manipur's Chandel district, killing at least 18 army personnel and injuring 11 others.

The six soldiers from Jammu who lost their lives in the ambush were Naib subaidar Ram Singh, Havaldar Satpal Bhasin, Lance Naik Kuldeep Raj, Havaldar Sunil Kumar Sharma, Havaldar Randeep Singh, Sepoy Vijay Kumar.
