Congress running away from BBMP polls: BJP

Last Updated 07 June 2015, 20:09 IST

BJP leader S Suresh Kumar on Sunday criticised the State Congress for its reported efforts to postpone the BBMP polls, saying that the ruling party is running away from the elections.

Speaking to reporters, he said the last population census was conducted in 2011. The Congress government has failed to conduct delimitation of wards and fix reservation despite availability of the latest population data. It is obvious that the ruling party is trying to find some excuse to postpone the polls, he charged.

Both the High Court and the Supreme Court have ordered that elections should be held to the BBMP. But the government is unwilling to do so. It clearly shows that the ruling party is reluctant to face the polls. But the BJP is ready to fight the elections, he added.

The BJP leader said the State should reconsider its decision to hold the winter session of the State legislature in both Belagavi and Bengaluru. The session should be held either in Belagavi or Bengaluru.
