Man slashed with sword by relative

Attacked for objecting to lewd remarks on his wife

A 21-year-old woman’s family was attacked with swords by their distant relatives after her husband objected to her uncle passing lewd comments on her in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri on Sunday night.

While the woman escaped unhurt, her husband Makhan Singh, 22, and two relatives suffered deep wounds.

They are undergoing treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Makhan is a mason in the area and lives with his family.

Right across their home lives the woman’s 55-year-old uncle Bunty with his family.
Makhan had just returned from a wedding when he heard Bunty passing lewd comments on his wife.

Seeing his wife uncomfortable, Makhan intervened and asked Bunty to keep away from her.
Infuriated, Bunty went into Makhan’s house with a sword to attack them, said police.

Makhan was injured in the attack but his wife managed to shield herself.
Bunty was soon joined in by his two sons armed with swords.
Hearing the commotion, Makhan’s brother Sanjay and aunt Sauni Kaur rushed to the couple’s aid.

Two others injured
“Bunty and his sons diverted their attention to Sanjay and Kaur and attacked them with swords. Seeing locals gather at the scene, the three men fled from the spot,” a police officer told Deccan Herald.

Police were informed and the two victims rushed to hospital in a police jeep.
The three victims have suffered cuts to their faces, necks and limbs.
Police said their lives are not in danger anymore.

A case of attempt to murder was registered with Sultanpuri police station and raids conducted at the suspects’ home.
Bunty was arrested on Monday but his sons are still absconding.
