Last Updated 11 June 2015, 20:36 IST

Social activist S R Hiremath on Thursday said that a petition will be filed before the Election Commission against Home Minister K J George for concealing information about his investments in various companies.

Hiremath, the founder-president of Samaj Parivartana Samudaya, said that George had understated his investments in his affidavit before the Election Commission in 2013.
“Our study team, which has collected hundreds of documents relating to the serious illegalities committed by George, has meticulously analysed the specific documents relating to his shares in the various companies.

In his affidavit before the Election Commission, George has shown his own investments in companies as Rs 5.94 crore, which was grossly understated. Our study team has revealed that the actual investments of George in 14 companies is Rs 10.97 crore. We have not only collected details about George’s investments as on March 31, 2013, relevant period for the affidavit, but also the figures as on March 31, 2014, at Rs 13.44 crore,” Hiremath said. Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (SPS) will soon move the Election Commission of India considering the gravity of the situation. “For the first time, the SPS is moving the Election Commission of India. Out of 14 companies, George has investments of Rs 8.37 crore in XIndia Steel Company alone. The documents suggests that George had a major role as a middleman in providing a series of services like travel, office space, transportation and even security services to XIndia Company which may lead to conflict of interests as Home Minister,” Hiremath said.
