Blazing the screen

PC Shekar’s latest directorial venture ‘Arjuna’ is ready for release. While the team is busy promoting this Devaraj-Prajwal starrer, Shekar is thrilled to talk about the lead stars. “The movie doesn’t feature Devaraj and his son in a typical father-son role. Here, they play opposing roles where one has to challenge the other. A director’s job is not only to direct a movie but also to do everything that will arouse the curiosity of the viewers,” explains Shekar.

He reasons that people are used to seeing Devaraj play a cop’s role and Prajwal play the romantic lead in most of the movies. “Here, I’ve attempted to break that mould. Prajwal sports a bearded look and wears spectacles throughout the film and Devaraj wears sunglasses right from the first frame to the last. This has been done to make the characters appear distinct,” shares Shekar. He adds, “Although, Prajwal wears a clean look throughout the film, he has a dark past which is not revealed until the end of the film. Devaraj has retained the look of a cop and has very few dialogues in the film.”

Shekar recalls that there’s a scene in the film where Devaraj and Prajwal have to come face to face and deliver some really harsh dialogues. “There’s a scene in ‘Arjuna’ where Prajwal comes face to face with his father and reel out a couple of heavy dialogues. We could actually see Prajwal’s hands tremble when he faced his father in that scene. That’s because both of them are brilliant actors,” observes Shekar. Devaraj and Prajwal were extremely supportive of each other’s characters.

He notes working with Devaraj and Prajwal has not only enriched his experience as a director but also inspired him to sketch out something truly unique for the two of them. He has done well to give both the actors their individual credits and has also made efforts to make sure their biology-backed chemistry sets the screen ablaze. Shekar is also one of those directors who gets the movie buffs thinking. His films offer more than just entertainment.
