<p>A 28-year-old man was axed to death by a robber in north-east Delhi’s Sonia Vihar in the wee hours of Friday. The accused was overpowered and thrashed to death, police said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The deceased has been identified as Chitranjan Kumar, who hailed from Bihar’s Sheohar district and lived with his elder brother’s family in Chauhan Patti village.<br /><br />He owned a mobile recharge shop, while his elder brother Shiv owns a jewellery shop on the ground floor of their house. <br /><br />Chitranjan and the robber were declared brought dead at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. <br />“The robber is yet to be identified. He seems to have made a plan to rob the jewellery shop,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Eastern Range) Sanjay Beniwal.<br /><br />Shiv and his brother-in-law Raj Kumar also sustained injuries in the incident.<br />Police said the robber had gained entry into the first floor by climbing up a drainpipe on the building.<br />He was carrying a torch, rod, iron cutter and an axe. “Chitranjan was sleeping on the first floor,” another police officer added.<br /><br />It is believed that Chitranjan was attacked when he tried to raise an alarm on noticing the accused in his room.<br /><br />“Chitranjan was hacked to death with an axe,” the officer said. The robber ransacked the room and then went dowstairs, where Chitranjan’s elder brother Shiv was sleeping with his family.<br />Shiv also saw the robber and raised an alarm on which Shiv’s brother-in-law Raj Kumar rushed to the room.<br /><br />“Fearing to be caught, the robber had also locked himself in a room,” the officer added. <br />As neighbours began to gather outside the house, the robber tried to flee.<br />He was, however, overpowered by Shiv and Raj Kumar.<br /><br />It is alleged that he used his weapons and injured Shiv and Raj Kumar.<br />In a scuffle, the weapons were snatched from the robber to attack him back. <br />“The robber had several injury marks on his body. The axe was also used to attack him,” the officer said.<br /><br />A case of murder and attempt to murder under Indian Penal Code has been filed with Sonia Vihar police station. <br /><br />The robber’s body has been preserved for a post-mortem. He is around 35-years-old.<br />Local police have shared his photograph with the district police to identify him.</p>
