Imagination has no boundary and creativity has no horizon. Scintillating works of artists have been displayed by the Bengal Spectrum VI which held viewers in a thrall. The group painting show which showcased artwork of various artists, including Alka Raghuvanshi, Manisha Gowade and Sanjay Soni was recently on display at the India Habitat Centre.

The show followed the theme of ‘Enhancing living faces’, which included works of Buddha and Rajasthan painting by Soni; blossoms, abstract painting by Gowade and Raghuvanshi and digital paintings.

Soni executed a remarkable Rajasthani series, highlighting the Rajasthani culture, men with their different styles of turban and dressing in his painting. There was also a series on Buddha depicting the monks in the temple. “I started doing Rajasthani painting some years ago, as I’m fond of their dressing styles like the big mustaches and turbans,” says Soni, a Delhi-based artist. He feels that as an artist, he “could keep their traditions alive, as today’s generation doesn’t follow the culture.”

His Buddha series including around 200 paintings, with the faces of Buddha and monks in temple and other works include the Khajuraho temple and horse series.

The beautiful abstract painting is a rare combination of the simple and complicated. The blossom paintings by Gowade includes daisy, tiger lily and lotus. Her painting of daisy was a masterpiece with each flower petal being painted in a single stroke of the brush.

“The abstract paintings include the psychological feeling,” says Gowade. She mainly works for abstracts, but for the exhibition, she has worked on blossoms. She specialises in glass paintings and textiles. Explaining about her work, Gowade says, “It is not only important to create but also to focus on what one sees through one’s painting.”

The four-day exhibition by Bengal Spectrum VI, was a refreshing and colourful spectacle for its variety and choice of artists.
