Teaching, research my priority, says Kuvempu University VC

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University (Shivamogga) Prof Jogan Shankar said he will give fillip to teaching, research and extension activities at the Kuvempu University.

He said the previous vice chancellors of the Kuvempu University had developed infrastructure that was needed.

“I will have to develop it further to suit the present day requirement. The experience I acquired as a chairman of the Department of Sociology for 18 years and being part of various university bodies such as Syndicate, Academic Council will help in discharging my duty as a vice chancellor. I will abide by the rules laid down in the Karnataka State Universities Act fully while discharging my duty,” he said.

Wide experience  
In the past, he has worked in Karnatak, Gulbarga, Bangalore and Mysore universities along with institutions like Nimhans, Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC).

He has also worked as project sociologist for Upper Krishna Project that dealt with rehabilitation in Bagalkote. He has the credit of having guided 37 PhD students.

He was the founder coordinator of MSW course in Mangalore University in 2003. He is the recipient of Dr Ambedkar Award for significant contributions to the field of education from the State government.
