Medal winners bask in glory

It was perhaps the biggest day of her life when she received two gold medals in MCom from Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, at the 33rd convocation of Mangalore University on Wednesday.

Shwetha Bhandary P, a student of SVS College, Bantwal, won Mangalagangothri Commerce Pioneers Gold Medal, Lakshmi Soma Bangera Kodikanyana Memorial Gold Award and first rank with distinction.  Financial constraints did not deter her from achieving heights in life.

“The gold medals mean a lot to me. Without the support of my parents and relatives, I would not have achieved this, she said. Her mother Vrinda Bhandary rolls beedi while father Venkatesh Bhandary is a store helper in a shop. At present, she is employed at Indian Overseas Bank in Padubidri.

Karunya Shetty of Applied Botany has won three gold medals and a cash prize. A resident of Kadri Kambala, she has excelled not only in her studies but also in dance and drawing. She serves  as a guest faculty in the university and wants to continue her research.

She is the daughter of Shekhar Shetty and Shobha Shetty. She has won Mulla Salebhai M A Vagh Gold Medal, Kumbla Ramdas Rangappa Nayak Memorial Gold Medal, Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy Gold medal. Nagaraja G of Government First Grade College and P G Centre Thenkanidiyur in Udupi has won Dharmasthala Rathnavarma Heggade Memorial Gold medal in Kannada MA, Golden Jubilee Kannada Film Festival Memorial cash prize, Sri Kerody Subba Rao Memorial cash prize, Late B N Guptha Trustee Janmabhoomi Press Trust Memorial cash prize, Cash prize in honour of Dr B Damodar, Vasanatha S Ananthanarayana and Prof S Ananthanarayana cash prize.

Preethi Udupa (MA History) of Dr G Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College, Ajjarakadu said she was happy that she won gold medal.  She is serving as  guest faculty at Kota Padukere College. “I want to pursue my Phd in ancient Indian history.”

Sandeep of Journalism has won Dr T M A Pai Endowment Gold medal and late Sri Ramakrishna Mallya gold medal. Sangeetha Karanth (chemistry) won Prof B Shivaram Holla gold medal and Dr A M Abdul Khader gold medal. Logeshwari K has secured Jindal Jubilee gold medal and late Saraswathi alias Uma Kini Memorial gold medal. Hina Kausar Nazir (English) has won Vasanatha S Ananthanarayana and Prof S Ananthanarayana cash prize, The Louella and J M Lobo Prabhu Literature cash prize, old student cash prize.

Shripriya of Dr G Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College and PG Centre in Udupi has won Mrs Cyprian Cornelio memorial cash award, the Louella Lobo Prabhu and J M Lobo Prabhu cash prize, Hanuman Gajanana Automobiles cash prize.
