Lokayukta probe into substandard work sought

CMC members demanded Lokayukta probe into poor quality of works taken up under second phase of Chief Minister’s Nagarothana project in Madikeri. 

At the meeting chaired by President Julekabi, both the ruling and opposition members called for Lokayukta probe. Expressing his displeasure,Member Chummi Devaiah alleged the president has failed to control officials. To which, the President expressed her helplessness stating that officials were not responsive. 

Member Ameen Mohisin said though Ganapathy Road has developed cracks no repair work has been taken up and this was hampering movement of vehicles. The second phase of Chief Minister’s Nagarothana has been taken up at a cost of Rs 24 crore, of which Rs 12 crore has been utilised so far. Bills worth Rs 9 crore has been cleared, Executive Engineer Ravikumar said. 

Opposing the move, BJP members said in spite of poor quality of work, bills for work undertaken have been cleared. Supporting his view, K M Ganesh said poor quality of work has been initiated. Lokayukta should probe into quality of work taken up. 

CMC Commissioner Pushpavathi said poor quality of work has already been brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner. Members said heft fee is collected for parking vehicles at Rajaseat so there is need to put up board on parking fee. 

Members also alleged that work on market is moving at slow pace causing inconvenience to merchants and consumers. When women members said no development works have been initiated in their respective wards, the commissioner said DC has directed not to take up any new work during monsoon. Those commenced will be completed.
